Helen Bernat, age 97, of Palmer, Massachusetts passed away on January 23, 2020 in Delano, MN. The daughter of the late Josephine (Wolak) and Kazimierz Lech of Thorndike, MA and wife of the late Patrick Bernat of Ware, MA, Helen was born and raised in Thorndike and attended Palmer High School.

Helen was a hairdresser in her early years and a homemaker. She was devoted to her family and provided a loving happy life for all of her children. Helen loved gardening and looked forward to spending time on the beach in Cape Cod with her family.

Helen is survived by her sister Lottie Cercena of Stafford Springs, CT and her four children, Walter (Cynthia Marshall) of Portland OR, Alice (Gary Winslow) of Syracuse NY, Mary Ann (William McMullen) of Delano MN, and Edward (Susan Tarnosky) of Union CT; and her sister-in-law, Ruth (Petrashewicz) Lech of Thorndike. She is the loving grandmother of Damien (Marie) Bernat, Donald (Christina) McMullen and Robert McMullen, and a brand new great granddaughter, Vivian Rose McMullen, born one day before Helen’s death. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was pre-deceased by her brothers Joseph (Florence Martel), Walter (Virginia Holcomb), and Henry.

A funeral mass will be held at St Thomas Church in Palmer, Massachusetts with burial to follow at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
