January 7, 2022

Jean Marie Koziol, age 70 of Independence passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, January 7, 2022. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Jean was well known for her dedicated service of caring for others with a warm heart and genuine smile. She started her career right out of college at North Memorial Hospital. After 20 years of service, Jean had a calling to care for her elders at the nursing home in Delano. A decade later, along with many night and holiday shifts Jean had the opportunity to work at Hillcrest in Wayzata giving her more time with her family. Jean retired from Hillcrest in 2019. With a combined 50 years of dedication, she was always able to touch lives, giving her whole heart for every family she cared for.

Jean spent her free time staying in contact with her family that lived near and far from where she called home on the lake in Independence. She loved spending weekends away with her husband Kenny, stopping into shops in Northern Minnesota. She also very much enjoyed cooking her children’s favorite meals to share with them. Jean often would stay busy, whether it be preschool pickup and afternoons baking or stopping in to watch a hockey game on the weekends. If Jean wasn’t found catching up with family, you could be assured she was always tidying up around the house or during the summer months spending afternoons on the dock with Kenny.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Anne Hauglie. Survived by husband of 45 years Ken; children Jim (Tara), Lisa (Josh) Marlette; grandchildren Nora, Aubrey and Caiden; siblings Joan (Edward) Mingo, Lawrence Hauglie (Nancy). Private Mass of Christian burial was held at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto, Minnesota with inurnment in the church cemetery.
